October 2015 is a special month and year in movie history! Because October 21, 2015, is the day Doc Emmett Lathrop “Doc” Brown and Marty McFly goes to the future! In this case, our present time. Who are they, you ask? *Gasp* You must’ve been living under a rock all this time! Because they are popular fictional characters of the cult film, Back to the Future 1, 2 and 3. Well, for today, my fellow movie lovers, we’ll talk about Back to the Future 2! Let’s see if the futuristic things featured in the movie have actually come true this year.
- On the fashion side, Marty (Michael J. Fox) is wearing a self drying jacket.
Well that jacket, can be seen today in men’s fashion – that’s called the bomber jacket. Our version however is not self drying unlike that one from the movie!
2. Nike self lacing sneakers – that’s a reality now! It was just in the news recently. And guess who just got the first pair? Why Michael J. Fox of course!
Now I’m sure you’d like to get your hands on a pair of these awesome sneakers too. But before you go racing to the nearest Nike stores, let me be the one to break your heart and say it’s not available to the general public yet! Not until spring of 2016! Profit will go to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Disease.
3. In Back to the Future 2, there were also flying cars.
Well, that’s not a reality just yet. But I heard that’s already in the works. I heard that flying cars are going to be a reality come 2017! Wow, that’s not a far future from now!
4. Jaws 19 in 3D
Remember that scene in the movie where 80s Marty got the scare of his life from a 3D shark hologram? Jaws 19 was showing that time.
That’s a reality nowadays. In fact, not only do we have 3D movies. We have 4D and 5D! Personally though, I still like it 2D.
5. The most raved about thing in Back to the Future 2 were hoverboards which I think is the future’s version of skateboards.
Well that’s also coming to a reality now. I read that both Lexus and Hendo (Arx Pax) have been developing hoverboards that use magnetic fields to float above special surfaces. That would totally be cool!
There are a lot of things that Back to the Future 2 got right and there were some that were wrong as well like the proliferation of fax machines – that’s gone obsolete in this future! Personally, what I’d love to see come to a reality is turning trash into fuel. We have a lot of garbage in the city alone! I hope someone’s also thinking of doing that. Who knows? Technology nowadays is so advanced, that may just happen! I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
